The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is approaching quickly. At this annual Chinese event, thousands of dogs and cats will be publicly slaughtered and sold for consumption. These animals are often stolen pets and travel thousands of miles in cages, where disease spreads rapidly. Some of the animals are already dead upon arrival to the festival due to the horrific transportation conditions.
The dogs and cats arrive at the "celebration" exhausted and starving. The animals are then pulled out of their cages one by one and are killed by burning, bludgeoning, drowning, or electrocution (just to name a few of the barbarous methods of torture). It is believed by the Chinese who participate in the festival that the more pain that the animals suffer, the more delicious their meat will taste. Panic spreads as the animals witness the killing of the other victims.
How can you help the victims of Yulin? One organization that saves the animals before they arrive at the festival is No Dogs Left Behind. No Dogs Left Behind is led by founder Jeffrey Beri and other Chinese activists who intercept the trucks before they arrive at the festival. The animals are then brought to a shelter, where they go through a vaccination process until they are healthy for adoption.
The ultimate goal is for these dogs and cats to be adopted into loving homes; however, the medication and cost to fly the animals out of China is extremely pricey.
