New Paws-Abilities for the Mentally Disabled

Paws Abilities is a nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas that trains children and young adults with cognitive disabilities to care for animals. The organization was founded by Adriana Herrera, who has a 19-year-old daughter with Down syndrome. The nonprofit hosts charity dog washes and animal care workshops, where special needs volunteers are invited to participate. The washing is a mutually-beneficial experience for both the dogs and the groomers.

"We believe that the relationship between people and pets bridges any communication gap that exists between voiceless animals and people, regardless of their intellect."
